President's Welcome

On behalf of the Glamorous Ladies of the Gamma Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, I thank and welcome you for taking the time to visit our website.

The women of Gamma Mu Omega are extremely proud of our chapter and the support that we have received from the Daytona Beach community for 80 years. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is established on the premise of service, and we are exceptionally proud that the commitment of our local chapter to scholarship, academics, advocacy and community service has improved the lives of members of our society.

Gamma Mu Omega, chartered on December 13, 1941, is the first graduate chapter among African-American Greek-lettered organizations established in Volusia County.  Our charter members: Mildred Peterson, Joyce Engram, Phannye Huger, Angie Douglas, Marion Lancaster and Nadine Ferrell, were pioneers in providing service to our community. We are extremely grateful for the foresight and leadership of our charter members who embraced the spirit of our great sisterhood's motto of "Service to All Mankind."

GMO is excited to implement locally our sorority's 2018-2022 International Program -- “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service” -- for the betterment of the communities we serve.  Our International Program includes five program targets that are designed to advance the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha with excellence and underscore our commitment to sustainable service. The targets include: support of Historically Black Colleges & Universities; women's health and wellness; how to build an economic legacy; arts and culture; and global service.

With God’s blessing, and our ongoing commitment to our founding and chartering members' vision, GMO will continue “A Legacy Destined for Greatness through Exemplifying Excellence through Sustainable Service.”

Sincerely,

Ida Wright, President
