International Programs of Service

By culture and by merit, Gamma Mu Omega Chapter continues to fulfill the sorority’s mission of “Service to All Mankind.”  Currently, the chapter implements the International Program of Service designed by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. -- Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service.

Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service

Five Target Areas (2018-2022)

I.  HBCU for Life: A Call to Action - Alpha Kappa Alpha continues its focus on education with an emphasis on historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).  Chapters promote and market historically black colleges and universities and encourage students to attend HBCUs as a sustainability measure.  Activities include researching and publishing information regarding prominent Alpha Kappa Alpha women and other notable individuals who attended HBCUs.  Recognizing that HBCU funding is one of the primary obstacles that threaten the long-term growth and survival of HBCUs, members are encouraged to financially support HBCUs.

Signature Program: #CAP℠

#CAP℠ is a step-by-step approach to facilitate college admission from researching various institutions and submitting applications through completion of the enrollment process.  Chapters assist students in completing college applications, preparing for the ACT and SAT, writing compelling personal statements, identifying scholarships and other financial aid, and compiling a portfolio to track college admission results.

II.  Women's Healthcare and Wellness – The sorority continues to raise community awareness of critical health issues impacting African-American women.  Primary focuses include: breast cancer awareness and prevention, heart health, nutrition and wellness and care for caregivers.

III.  Building Your Economic Legacy – Through this initiative, the sorority emphasizes financial planning, asset accumulation, entrepreneurship, and wealth building including savings and investments.

IV.  The Arts! – Alpha Kappa Alpha exposes students to arts enrichment and culture by focusing on visual and performing arts and by showcasing talent through the exploration of writers, entertainers and various other artists.

V.  Global Impact – AKA engages in programming designed to enhance the international footprint of the sorority.  Initiatives include: National Global Impact Day, Global Assistance Activities, Soles 4 Souls, Partnership with Lions Club International, Pillowcase Project (Haiti), and the Refugees in America Assistance Program.
